BTCL (then T&T) was the first to bring telecommunication services to three hill towns in Bangladesh. This service delivery program started in 1968 with the setting up of Magneto Exchange in Bandarban Hill District. In 1981, CB Exchange of 200 lines was started in this district. A modern EMD exchange of 400 lines was launched in 1987. NWD was launched in 1988 due to customer demand. T&T Exchange, the only hope of telecommunication at that time, was transformed into a modern digital exchange in 2002. BTCL building is located on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman road in Bandarban city. The present holding capacity of Bandarban Exchange is AGW Telephone 2700 Nos and GPON 2304 Nos. There are 555 ADSL broadband internet connections under Bandarban Digital Exchange. Bandarban Telecom Unit consists of six upazilas: Bandarban Sadar, Alikadam, Lama, Ruma, Rowanchari, Thanchi. Presently AGW exchange has been established in four upazilas except Ruma and Thanchi. From Bandarban district headquarters and upazilas, customers can easily talk to the country and abroad.
